The Pi Project, which was featured in Design TO 2021, was a collective design project by students and graduates of George Brown College School of Design. At the culmination, an exhibition showcased all the pieces in a virtual 3D space.
I initially designed three numbers, each with it's own personality. Then I selected the 2 to turn into a digitally rendered art piece. My "Playground 2" was inspired by the idea of form and function, and the underlying shapes that can be used to construct a typography character. Typography is a mixture of serious and functional, and fun and decorative, and I wanted to represent that with my piece.
I created motion graphics for social media, and there were also various merchandise products such as shirts, coasters, and a book produced. The project was a great opportunity to experiment not only with expressive typography, but ideate many different concepts, colour palettes, and rendering styles for the final number.
